The Haunted Library – Let’s Read
In a small village surrounded by misty hills, there was a library that everyone feared. It wasn’t your usual kind of library.
This one was hidden at the edge of town, in an old stone building with ivy crawling up the walls. No one ever went there, especially after the sun went down. They said the library had a mind of its own.
One rainy night, two friends, Max and Ella, dared each other to visit the library. Both were a bit too brave for their own good, and neither wanted to back out.
So, with flashlights in hand, they made their way to the eerie building.
The library door was heavy, and it groaned as they pushed it open. Inside, the air smelled of old paper and damp wood.
The room was dark, with only a few dusty lamps casting a faint glow. Max whispered, “Look, it’s just a library. Nothing spooky here.”
But the words had barely left his mouth when something strange happened.
One of the shelves started moving, sliding to the side as if it were opening a hidden door. Behind it was a narrow passage, leading down a set of stone stairs.
Max and Ella exchanged a nervous glance but decided to go down. After all, they wanted an adventure, didn’t they?
As they walked down, they noticed something odd. The walls were lined with bookshelves, but the books here looked very different.
They were all handwritten, with names scrawled across their covers. Ella picked one up and gasped. “Max, these books… they have people’s names on them.”

Each book seemed to belong to someone, as if it held the life story of a real person. Max grabbed a book with the name “Oliver Finch” on the cover.
He opened it, and to his shock, words started forming on the pages right in front of his eyes. It was like the book was alive, retelling events from Oliver’s life.
The final page, however, was blank.
As he flipped through, he saw Oliver’s childhood, his family, and then, strange, shadowy events that Max didn’t fully understand.
Suddenly, the words faded, and in their place was a new sentence: “Find me.”
“Find who?” Max whispered, staring at the book. But before he could think, they heard footsteps. Slow, echoing footsteps, coming from the bottom of the stairs.
Max and Ella turned off their flashlights, holding their breath. The footsteps stopped, and a cold voice drifted up the stairs.
“Who’s reading my story?”
Ella wanted to run, but Max held her back. They crept deeper into the room, hoping to stay out of sight. As they did, they noticed another passageway at the far end of the room.
A glimmer of light was coming from it, soft and warm, as if calling them over.
As they reached the end of the passage, they found a small, hidden room with a single book lying open on a pedestal.
This book was different—it was glowing slightly, and as they drew closer, they saw their own names written on the cover.
Quote of the Day
Some stories beg to be read, but in the Haunted Library, some stories read you.
“What… why is our name here?” Ella asked, her voice barely a whisper.
Max reached out, drawn to the book, but just before he could touch it, they heard that same cold voice, now louder and closer, “Once you enter, you can never leave.”
Panic surged through them. They knew they needed to get out. They ran back through the twisting passages, back up the stairs, and toward the exit.
As they reached the main library room, the shelves began to move on their own, blocking their way. It was as if the library itself was trying to trap them.
Thinking fast, Ella grabbed a book off a nearby shelf and threw it to the floor.
The library froze, and the doors burst open, allowing them to escape. They stumbled outside, gasping for air. The rain had stopped, but a strange, eerie silence filled the night.
When they looked back, the library doors were shut tight, and the building stood dark and still, as if nothing had happened.
Max and Ella never returned to the library again, but sometimes, they would wonder about that book with their names on it. What did it mean?
What would have happened if they had opened it? And who was the voice that had warned them?
No one knew, but every once in a while, late at night, people walking by the library claimed they could hear faint whispers drifting out of the stone building, calling for someone brave enough to enter once again.
