The Lazy Donkey – Let’s Read
Once in a small village, a farmer named Ramu owned a donkey named Hobi. Now, Hobi wasn’t just any ordinary donkey—he was terribly lazy.
While Ramu depended on him to carry heavy loads, Hobi always looked for ways to avoid the hard work.
His favourite pastime was finding shortcuts so he could spend more time resting under the shade of trees.
Every morning, Ramu would load Hobi with heavy sacks of salt and set out for the market. They had to cross a small stream on the way, and Hobi found the journey tiring.
One day, as he trudged along with his load of salt, he slipped and fell into the water. When he finally stood up, Hobi realized that his load felt lighter.

Curious, he noticed that the water had dissolved some of the salt, making his job much easier!
Hobi thought, “This is perfect! I just need to fall in the stream every day, and I won’t have to carry as much weight.”
From then on, Hobi made it a habit to “accidentally” fall into the water every morning. Ramu soon caught on to Hobi’s laziness and knew he needed to teach his donkey a lesson.
The next day, Ramu loaded Dhobi with sacks filled with cotton instead of salt.
Hobi, unaware of the switch, happily made his way to the stream, confident that his “trick” would save him from carrying the heavy load.
He fell in the water as usual, expecting his burden to be lighter afterward. But instead, the cotton soaked up the water and became much heavier!
Quote of the Day
Shortcuts may lighten today’s load, but they often double tomorrow’s burden.
When Hobi got up, he was shocked at how much harder it was to carry the load. Struggling and exhausted, Dhobi realized that his clever plan had backfired.
From that day on, Hobi learned his lesson and did his work without trying to avoid it.
Moral of the Story
Trying to escape responsibility may seem easy, but it often brings even greater trouble. Hard work and honesty are always the best way forward.
