The Crow and the Jug – Let’s Read
Once upon a time, in a quiet village, a crow named Chikki lived high in an old tree. Chikki was known among the birds for his cleverness and quick thinking.
One hot summer afternoon, the sun was blazing, and every animal in the village was searching for water.
But with no rivers nearby and all the ponds dried up, water was hard to find.
Chikki, parched from flying all day, finally spotted an old jug left by the side of a deserted road. Curious and hopeful, he flew down to check it out.
To his relief, there was water inside the jug, but only a small amount at the bottom. No matter how much he stretched his beak, he couldn’t reach it.
Frustrated, Chikki sat by the jug, trying to think of a solution. As he looked around, he noticed small pebbles scattered nearby. An idea sparked in his mind.
“If I drop pebbles into the jug, perhaps the water will rise,” he thought.

Encouraged, he picked up another pebble, then another, and kept dropping them one by one. Slowly, the water level rose with each pebble he added.
After a lot of effort, the water finally reached the brim of the jug. Chikki happily dipped his beak into the cool, refreshing water and drank his fill.
He felt proud of his perseverance and clever thinking.
Just then, a thirsty rabbit hopped by, panting from the heat. Seeing the water-filled jug, the rabbit asked, “Chikki, could I please have some water too?”
Remembering the effort he had put in, Chikki paused for a moment.
But then he thought of how he had once been thirsty too and how difficult it had been to find water. “Of course,” he replied, “there’s enough for both of us.”
